Bird of Flight

If you are going to cage a bird of flight,
Pluck her wings.

Amputate from scapular to mantle,
Dismantle all impulses for flight;

Unhook the synapses from limbs to brain.
And if you want to be thorough,

Kill the bird.
Because even the caged bird still sings,

Dreaming of sky and wind.
And that is not so different from flying.
