Snow falling snow plows clearing the streets
Upright I look out
the western windows -
Heavy gusts of snow
Just sitting blankness of fog the mind adrift
The house isn’t empty but I am empty

The cat descending stairs how floatingly she moves herself
Outside in the bright sunlight
suddenly I sneeze
By the sycamore a single trillium
***
Having descended to the river I wait for the full moon
People move as rivers move
On the banks of the Iowa River
thousands of ghost horses
