Phone Conversation
Over the phone,
we give a hearty laugh & pretend as if our
minds are not heavily-laden with questions
that burden our tongues,
as if we're not consumed by the same fears
that distance is a subtle loss of being.
we asked the questions we could ask, because
we were afraid to ask those that'll put us in
an open field.
Oh' how is it over there?
silence, a sharp cry in the background.
I'm alive as usual, no Ann Darrow waiting for the
Big King Kong to come to her rescue
silence, again. a throat cleared.
you heard from your mum?
silence.
Once, she let that loser move in and had
to worry about how to stretch the bills into buying
one more food.
Awkward silence, again.
Oh' and your sister just came back from yet another visit to the hospital, yes?
You fell silent.
Oh' guess you wouldn't know, you are too busy keeping up with the Kardashians
